Released in 1988, Introspective has sold more than four and a half million copies worldwide to date, and was the first album to be produced under the hands of star producer Trevor Horn, whose opulent orchestration for Pet Shop Boys was also a new direction in sound. House legend Frankie Knuckles created the mix of I Want A Dog, while Domino Dancing was recorded in Miami with hit producer Lewis Martine. Moreover, Introspective revealed a new way of dealing with Tennants and Lowes vinyl album and single formats: Each of the only six songs on the album was longer than six minutes, and extra edits were made for the conventional 7-inch single formats. "The idea behind it was to make an album where every song was a single," explains Neil Tennant. "And indeed, five of the six songs were released as singles. I'm Not Scared was a single for Patsy Kensit, or rather her band Eighth Wonder."
