With unfettered access to the Zappa Trust and all archival footage, ZAPPA explores the private life behind the mammoth musical career that never shied away from the political turbulence of its time. Alex Winters assembly features appearances by Franks widow Gail Zappa and several of Franks musical collaborators including Mike Keneally, Ian Underwood, Steve Vai, Pamela Des Barres, Bunk Gardner, David Harrington, Scott Thunes, Ruth Underwood, Ray White and others.

The 2-LP 180-gram color vinyl soundtrack edition is a perfect complement to the film. Highlighting 21 songs from the documentary, there are 8 unreleased recordings from the Zappa archive along with his 1978 Saturday Night Live performance and 13 recordings from Zappas extensive recording career giving Zappa super-fans and newer-fans a sonic exploration into the musical brilliance that is Frank Zappa.
