Williams - We featured The Bastrds of Soul in the Blind Tiger Record Club's 2021 May Jazz Soul & Blues ROTM program with the albumSpinnin.We were blown away by the bands adherenceto traditionalsoul in a way that was far more authentic then most "throwback" bands. A big part of that was Chadwick Murray's vocals. We were sad to hear of his death in 2021 and thought thatSpinninwould be the bands last release.
Give It Right Backis by far, the best album released from Bastards of Soul. I can think of a better way to respect the lineageof Murray than for this band to not only keep going, but to advancethe sound even more. This is a BTRC Must Hear Vinyl release for 2023. Its an outstandingalbum and we highly recommend it!
Bastards of Soul returnwith their 3rd album "Give It Right Back", the last chapter in the band's story following the untimely death of their lead singer Chadwick Murray in 2021. The set features "This Love", a song written by Chadwick and although he was never able to record the song, Keite Young (who performed the stunning cover of "Like A Ship" with Leon Bridges) stepped in with a beautiful rendition that Chadwick would be proud of. Also featured on the album are Daptone recording artist The Sha La Das and Colemine recoding artist Ghost Funk Orchestra.
