A highlight of Bobby Hutcherson's adventurous 1970s output, Montara (1975) captures the vibraphonist blending Latin jazz with fusion grooves in an irresistibly uplifting set recorded in his hometown of Los Angeles. Joined by an outstanding cast including Willie Bobo, Blue Mitchell, Ernie Watts, Harvey Mason, and Bobby Matos, Hutcherson moves seamlessly between percussive Latin fire and lush harmonic textures. The album features lively renditions of "La Malanga," "Yuyo," and "Oye Como Va", as well as the atmospheric "Montara", "Love Song", and "Little Angel."
