With his full, warm, round sound, refined phrasing and hip quotes, Dexter Gordon was one of the driving forces of the tenor saxophone from the mid-1940s until his death in 1990. Gordon was cited as an inspiration and influence by both Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane, and is considered one of the jazz icons. This album with Slide Hampton, who was not only one of the great jazz trombonists, but also composers and arrangers, was made during the time Gordon had moved to Europe.
