Eddie Jerome Vedder is an American singer, songwriter, and activist, best known as the lead singer of Pearl Jam. Born Edward Louis Severson III in 1964, he changed his last name to his mother's maiden name, Vedder, after learning his stepfather was not his biological father. Vedder's low vocals and introspective lyrics made him a prominent figure in 1990s rock, and he used his platform to advocate for environmentalism, women's rights, and LGBTQ+ equality.
