When funk music exploded onto the global pop scene in the late 60s, many of Jamaica's leading music-makerswere inspired to incorporate elements of the exciting sound into their work. The result was the fascinating andcompelling funky reggae style that proved immensely popular with record buyers on both sides of the Atlanticthroughout the early 70s. Pioneers of the sound included such celebrated producers as Lee Scratch Perry andLloyd Charmers, whose recordings are heavily represented on this irresistible collection. Collected here are some ofthe finest examples of the funky reggae, performed by some of reggae musics most accomplished artists, from KenBoothe and Lee Perrys Upsetters to British-based acts, Greyhound and The Marvels.
