British shoegaze band Slowdive formed in 1989 by Nick Chaplin (bass), Rachel Goswell (vocals, guitar), Christian Savill (guitar) and songwriter Neal Halstead (vocals, guitar) Production on Slowdive's debut began shortly after Halstead managed to convince Alan McGee - the head of Creation Records - that the band had collected enough songs. In reality, they didn't have nearly enough songs. Then in the studio they frantically started putting the songs together, experimenting with sounds and cannabis. The end result was "Just For A Day", originally released in 1991.
