Formed in the Bay Area in 2024, Year001 includes guitarist and lead vocalist Justin King, bassist Nick Volkart, and drummer Greg Nielsen. The band started as an instrumental project after the pandemic, but slowly found its true sound through years of friendship, trial, and growth. After trying out different singers and styles, King stepped into the vocal role, and the band discovered that their best setup was already in front of them.

The new album features ten tracks that pull ideas from many places1980s hardcore punk, 1990s emo, Oi!, ska, and more. Their wide range of influences helps the band stand out and connect with different music scenes. Four songs from the album are already available to stream, including the lead track, Counterweight, which opens the album with a direct call: Are you ready to rock-n-roll?

What makes Year001 different is their mix of intensity and optimism. Their music is full of loud guitars, rough but passionate vocals, and lyrics about reflection and personal growth. The band isnt trying to follow trends or fit into one scenethey just want to make music they love and hope it connects with others.
